چکیده

The quantum field theory describing the Electroweak sector demands some new physics at the TeV scale in order to unitarize the scattering of longitudinal W bosons. If this new physics takes the form of a scalar Higgs boson then it is hard to understand the huge hierarchy of scales between the Electroweak scale ∼ TeV and the Planck scale ∼ 10 GeV. This is known as the Naturalness problem. Normally, in order to solve this problem, new particles, in addition to the Higgs boson, are required to be present in the spectrum below a few TeV. If such particles are indeed discovered at the Large Hadron Collider it will become important to determine their spin. Several classes of models for physics beyond the Electroweak scale exist. Determining the spin of any such newly discovered particle could prove to be the only means of distinguishing between these different models. In the first part of this thesis, we present a thorough discussion regarding such a measurement. We survey the different potentially useful channels for spin determination and a detailed analysis of the most promising channel is performed. The Littlest Higgs model offers a way to solve the Hierarchy problem by introducing heavy partners to Standard Model particles with the same spin and quantum numbers. However, this model is only good up to ∼ 10 TeV. In the second part of

Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN will provide excellent opportunity to study the production and decay of heavy mesons and baryons with high statistics. We aim at the heavy mesons in this work and calculate their fragmentation functions consistent with this machine and present their total fragmentation probabilities and average fragmentation parameters.

Effects of unparticle on top spin correlation at the Large Hadron Collider

We study effects of the scale invariant hidden sector, unparticle, proposed by Georgi, on top spin correlation at the Large Hadron Collider. Assuming no flavor changing interaction between the unparticles and the Standard Model particles, there arises the top-antitop quark pair production process through virtual unparticle exchanges in the s-channel in addition to the Standard Model processes. ...

Maximizing the spin correlation of top quark pairs produced at the Large Hadron Collider

The measurement of top quark spin correlation is an important tool for precise studies of top quark interactions. In this letter I construct a quantization axis maximizing the spin correlation at the LHC within the Standard Model. Using this axis a spin correlation of 48% or even more, on applying additional cuts, can be reached. This represents a significant improvement compared to the helicit...

Initial determination of the spins of the gluino and squarks at LHC

In principle particle spins can be measured from their production cross sections once their mass is approximately known. The method works in practice because spins are quantized and cross sections depend strongly on spins. It can be used to determine, for example, the spin of the top quark. Direct application of this method to supersymmetric theories will have to overcome the challenge of measu...

Next-to-leading order QCD corrections to top quark spin correlations at hadron colliders: the reactions q ¯ q → t ¯ t(g) Abstract: Future hadron collider experiments are expected to record large to huge samples of t ¯ t events. The analysis of these data with respect to t ¯ t spin-spin correlations requires precise predictions of the production of these quark pairs in a general spin configurati...
